What is needed in order for me to schedule an appointment to see a therapist?
A prescription is required to receive therapy services. Acceptable prescriptions can be obtained from a physician, physician assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner (NP) who can assess your needs and issue a prescription if needed.
If you don’t have a provider, or would like to see one of our physiatrists who can determine your therapy needs, you may locate a physiatrist by searching for a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist.
What should a prescription contain?
Prescriptions should contain your diagnosis and the type of therapy services that you need.
I have a prescription from my doctor from Florida; would that be sufficient?
For care being received in any New York location, the referral must be a New York prescription or within 25 miles from any New York state border.
How can I provide my prescription?
As soon as possible after scheduling your appointment, you will need to upload your prescription into your . Instructions for uploading your prescription will be sent to you via email after scheduling your appointment. If you have an existing prescription in the system from an º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Langone physician, no additional upload is necessary.
My insurance does not require a referral, why am I being asked for a prescription?
A referral and a prescription are two different things. A referral is an authorization from your primary care physician (PCP) referring you to an in-network specialist. Some insurance providers require a referral. A prescription is the written order for therapy from the referring physician.
